Green products
For us, climate protection is a corporate task to which all areas are committed – from procurement to production to sales.The consistency of this thinking can be seen, for example, in our products, which are made from the natural product wood. This comes exclusively from sustainably managed forests and is dried using energy that is also 100 % sustainable.By consistently using wood as a raw material and manufacturing all product components directly on site, we avoid waste and emissions from traffic.Investments in modernising the vehicle fleet and equipment at our plant help to further reduce emissions and electricity consumption.Through these and other investments in sustainable processes, resource conservation and waste avoidance, our products are consistently green.

Integrated production
Our production is also completely geared towards sustainability: by manufacturing all the components of our products locally, we reduce transport distances and save CO2. We rely on natural raw materials and deliberately avoid chemicals. We meet the requirements of ISPM 15 for wooden packaging and load carriers, for example, by drying the pallets to the required wood moisture content in the two largest channel dryers installed in Europe as well as in nine other drying chambers, and by treating them as per the IPPC guidelines (ISPM 15).
The energy for this comes from the utilisation of the tree bark that we receive with the log wood. It is converted into renewable energy in our own biomass power plants.

Regenerative energy
Mercer Torgau processes more than 1.1 million solid cubic metres of wood annually via fully integrated production into pallets and numerous by-products such as sawn timber, pellets or briquettes.
All the energy we need for this is generated CO2-neutrally in our own biomass power plants, which are operated in accordance with the strict requirements of the Renewable Energies Act. We obtain the regenerative energy in an ecologically and economically practical way by burning the accumulating tree bark that we receive with the log wood.
